Solution 2: Modify cache settings manually for Server-Only Install
We strongly advise that you must put yourself in touch with experts in IT immediately because modifying Windows Registry is not a job of ease.
- Start command prompt set up to support multi-user access for the QuickBooks Desktop file. Paste and copy this in the text box: HKLM\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\QuickBooksDBxx\\Parameters.
- After -ch and -c check the numbers. Enterprise solutions fine with configuration -ch 512M and -c 256M. If your current configurations are not changing then modify it as below.
- If error can be found then check that you have provided correctly.
Step 1: Modify the configuration in the registry:
- Save all your work, files and log out in QuickBooks Desktop users.
- Open the command prompt and then enter net ‘stop QuickBooks DBXX’ and press enter, as you need to stop QuickBooks Desktop Database service.
- Now it is time to Edit the Windows registry, change location: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\CurrentControlSet\\Services\\QuickBooksDBxx\\Parameters. The existing value must be like -n QB_SERVER_NAME -qs -gd ALL -gk all -gp 4096 – gu all -ch 256M -c 128M…
Step 2: Intuit recommends to following changes:
- Replace -ch 512M with -ch 128M. Delete -ch 256M and -ch 512M for unlimited. The value should be like “-n QB_SERVER_NAME -qs -gd ALL -gk all -gp 4096 -gu all”.
Note: This is not entirely unlimited but the reality is that the “Database managed” and can utilize more memory when required.
- Replace -c 128M with -c 256M.
- Replace -ch 256M with -ch 512M.
- If you see that the settings are already set at the suggested level then don’t adjust them. These files do not address the cause of your performance issues.
- Save your changes.
- Type “net start QuickBooksDBXX” on command prompt (xx should be used as your software version year).
- Open QuickBooks and then open your company file.
- Prior to choosing an option, ensure that QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 14.0 or 15.0 is updated to the most recent version.
